About Dr. Benny French

Dr. French is currently Professor of Pharmacuetical Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. His academic discipline is Pharmacy Administration. He holds a BS in Pharmacy, MS in Pharmaceutics, and Ph.D. in Health Care Administration, all from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). His major professor was Dr. Mickey C. Smith. He is from the Mississippi Delta and is married to Dr. ElGenia Harris French also of the SWOSU Pharmacaceutical Sciences Department.

Dr. French has taught numerous courses while at Southwestern, including Pharmacy Administration II, Pharmacy Communications, Juris Prudence, Health Care Systems, Human Relations, and various Special Problems in Pharmacy Administration.

While at Southwestern, he has conducted social science research over a wide number of topics.

  • student recruitment, including a on-going long-term study now in its 18th year concerning resources used to decide upon pharmacy as a career and SWOSU as an institution to attend
  • stress in practicing pharmacists
  • use of alcohol and drugs of abuse in pharmacy students
  • personnel management and evaluation
  • use of macintosh-based multimedia materials
  • practice profiles of alumni and students
  • assessment of the pharmaceuctical care curriculum

 

Dr. French is the editor of The Sig, the faculty/depts/alumni newspaper, and he maintains the historical photograph archive for the School of Pharmacy. He is currently working on a series of digital video movies involving life in the College of Pharmacy.
