CHEM 1004: General Chemistry
Course Description
General Chemistry 1004 is designed to
fulfill
degree requirements for such majors as Nursing, Health Information
Management,
and Technology as well as to provide introductory background for
Biology,
Chemistry, and Pre-Pharmacy majors who may not be properly prepared for
entrance into the more rigorous General Chemistry I (1203) and II
(1303)
sequence. General Chemistry 1004 may also be substituted as a GE
course for physical science. Topics in this survey course of
general
chemistry include: systems of measurements; atomic theory;
chemical
bonding; naming and writing formulas of inorganic compounds; properties
of solids, liquids, and gases; energy; reactions (including balancing
equations,
stoichiometry, and equilibrium); solutions and units of solution
concentration;
and acid and base chemistry.
