Paula
Price is Assistant Professor of Flute and Music History at Southwestern
Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Prior to joining the SWOSU faculty, Ms. Price taught elementary music
for the Mesquite ISD (Mesquite, TX) and applied flute at the University of
North Texas, while serving as a graduate teaching assistant for the late Dr.
George Morey and completing the Master of Music degree in flute performance
along with a minor in musicology.
Paula was a student of Helen Ann Shanley during her undergraduate
studies at Baylor University. Studies
with other fine teachers include: Dr.
George Morey, Christine Smith, Dr. Valerie Watts, and the late beloved Mr. Geoffrey
Gilbert, mentor and teacher of Sir James Galway, Trevor Wye and other renowned
flutists.
Ms.
Price’s performance experiences include appearances on and off campus as a
recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral flutist. She has previously served as Principal Flute with the Waco
Symphony Orchestra and the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra.
Paula
maintains a private studio of flute students in her spare time. Her students have been selected to
participate in the Interlochen Arts Festival, Brevard Music Center, Oklahoma Summer Arts
Institute, University of Michigan’s “Summer Flute Fest,” Oklahoma Youth
Symphony, All-OMEA Band and Orchestra, and as soloist with the Washington
Chamber Orchestra’s “All-Girl Vivaldi Orchestra” in Washington, D.C.
Paula
resides in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with her husband, Tony, who is employed with
Legacy Bank. Their son, Cory, is
employed with Pepsi Cola in Oklahoma City.
Their daughter, Emily (Price) Hunter resides with her husband, Levi, in
Fort Worth, Texas, where she is a licensed stock broker with Rhodes’ Securities
and also dances professionally with modern dance and ballet companies within
the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
Paula’s interests include reading, gardening, traveling,
interior decorating, and bonding with the family, including her two cats,
“Little Cat” and “Wee One” (the 20-pounder).
