Books and Writings on the 11th Mississippi

The University Grays: Company A Eleventh Mississippi Regiment, Army of Northern Virginia, 1861-1965, by Maud Morrow Brown. This book, which is hard to find, was published by Garrett & Massie, Richmond, Virginia in 1940.

Tithes of Blood, A Confederate Soldier's Story, by Billy Ellis. This is an account of Co. E, The Prairie Guards. The authors ancestors were in this company and the book is an excellent insight into the view of the war from a private's eyes. The actual dialogue is fictionalised, however each event portrayed in the book, including the mustering of the company, its role in the 11th and the events of the protagonists are true. It is published by Stackpole Books and is available through bookstores and on-line catalogues.

Steve Stubbs' history of the 11th is near completion.   His book, Duty, Honor, Valor:  The Story of the 11th Mississippi Infantry Regiment, Steven H. Stubbs (Dancing Rabbit Press; Philadelphia, Mississippi) has a release date of December, 1999.  For more information, please check this link:  http://netalpha.net/~ags1/
