Department of Art, Communication, & Theatre
Steve been employed with SWOSU since 1992. In 2007, he received the University’s prestigious Bernhardt Academic Excellence Award and in 2011 he received the Brandy Award for Faculty Member of the Year. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech/Theatre Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Master of Arts in Theatre from Oklahoma State University. He has directed over fifty theatre productions for SWOSU; over half of those have been entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). Twelve productions have been nominated to advance to the regional festival, and four of those have advanced. He has received numerous awards through KCACTF; two of the most prestigious were the Gold Medallion for Service and the Region VI KCACTF Faculty Fellow – which included a fellowship at the Kennedy Center with only three other directors from the United States. Equally as rewarding was seeing three students advance to the National Theatre Festival – one of whom won the National Sound Design award.
