Text:
Introduction to Optics, 3e by Frank L. Pedrott, S.J., Leno S. Pedrotti, and Leno M. Pedrotti
Grades:
Your grades will be determined as follows:

Assignment Points per
Assignment
Estimated # of
Assignments
% of Total
Grade
Tests 100–150 2–3 30%
Homework 20 13 25%
Lab Grade 25%
Final Exam 200 1 20%

The final grade will be determined from you final score as follows:

Grade Percent
Needed
A 90
B 80
C 70
D 60

This means that earning a 90% guarantees you an A, etc. I reserve the right to 'curve' the grades upward if necessary.
Homework
There will be 13 homeworks sets assigned. Each homework assignment will be graded on a 20 point scale. The total homework grade will count for 25% of the total grade for the course. Up to 2 homework assignments will be accepted up to 1 week late. No other late homework will be accepted. Your worst homework grade will only count for half.
Tests:
Two to three exams are scheduled for this class. The dates of the tests will be set at least a week before the test.
Final
The final will cover all material covered during the semester.
Lab Grade
I will give you a separate syllabus for the lab component of this class detailing how the laboratory grade will be calculated. In any case the laboratory grade will make up 25% of your total grade for the course.
Disabilities:
Any student with a disability which will affect his or her learning or performance should contact the instructor with in the first week of classes so that reasonable accomodations can be discussed.
Cheating:
The minimum penalty is a zero for that exam or quiz and dropping your final course grade by one letter grade for each offense.
Withdrawing
You may withdraw until the end of the eleventh week with a "W". After this time, you will receive a "WF" unless your estimated grade at withdrawal is a "D" or better. STUDENTS WHO "DISAPPEAR" SHOULD TAKE THE INITIATIVE IN PROCESSING THEIR OWN DROPS IN ORDER TO AVOID AN "F".
